BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Public Safety Officer Dies After Shooting In Aiken

We are learning new information about a shooting involving an Aiken Department of Public Safety officer. Public Safety Director Charles Barranco said in a press conference Saturday evening, 48-year-old Master Corporal Sandra (Sandy) Rogers died as a result of injuries she received in that shooting.  

Barranco said Rogers, a 27-year-veteran of the Aiken Department of Public Safety, was a lifelong resident of Aiken County and a graduate of Aiken Technical College. Rogers was a field training officer and had previously received a community service and life saving award.

Director Barranco thanked the Aiken and law enforcement communities for their support.

The suspect in the case, 26 year old Joshua Jones, was arrested in Batesburg-Leesville just before noon Saturday. Jones was later booked into the Aiken County jail. Jones will face charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned 26-year-old Joshua Termaine Jones, was captured shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Batesburg, SC.

SLED confirms Jones is being transported to the Aiken County Jail.

WJBF News Channel 6 has team coverage and will have more developments once we get it, and tonight at 6 p.m.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that an Aiken Department of Public Safety (ADPS) officer has been shot, and a suspect is in custody.

We're told that it happend around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of Edgefield Avenue and Church Street at Eustis Park. Safety Office says officers were responding to a report of suspicious activity involving two cars, and that an officer was shot after stopping one of the vehicles.

26-year-old Joshua Termaine Jones was arrested in Batesburg, SC around 11:00AM this morning after a long search.  There is no word yet on the officer's condition.

Aiken Pubic Safety investigators are expected to update the media with in the hour.
