Richmond County Investigators Need Your Help Solving Recent Murder Cases

Two murder cases in Richmond County have yet to be solved.

Doniel Hicks, 21, and 16-year-old Kyle Royal were both shot and killed on Martin Luther King Junior weekend.

Investigators say they often need tips to solve cases and they’re hoping the people from the community will come forward.

You might not think it from looking at these two men, but 81-year-old Johnny Luckey and 21-year-old Lawrence Singleton do have a couple of things in common. Both were murdered in 2011. Both of their cases were solved by tips.

“Without tips, investigators are…?” we asked. "Generally, dead in the water," said Lieutenant Blaise Dresser, of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Dresser says they close many of their cases from people getting involved. A tip can oftentimes be the missing piece of the puzzle. "Many times it puts us in the right direction and helps us identify a suspect," he said.

A few days ago, we told you about an inmate who was mistakenly released from the Richmond County Jail. A viewer saw it on TV called the Sheriff's Office and deputies arrested him within hours.

Now, they are hoping for that same kind of help in solving their third and fourth murders of 2012.

Tips lead to a suspect being named, Christopher Smith, in the murder of Doniel Hicks, but so far they haven't been able to make an arrest.

No suspect has been named yet in the murder of 16-year-old Kyle Royal. With a life so young being taken away, investigators hope the community will come together so the case doesn't go cold.

"If no one ever came forward with times, there would be many cases that would go unsolved," said Lt. Dresser.
