Apple revolutionized the way we listen to music and connect online...and soon, the company will enter the education industry through digital textbooks.
The textbook business generated nearly $5 billion dollars last year, according to the American Association of Publishers, but digital textbook sales only account for about 6 percent of that number. But, with the growing number of e-readers and tablets among students, those numbers are expected to go up.
Apple’s announcement to market digital textbooks for publishers could mean old-school books are a thing of the past.
With other companies expected to enter the digital textbook fray, the days of student backpacks weighed down by heavy books could eventually become a thing of the past.
