UPDATED: Driver Charged With DUI In Death Of Fort Gordon Soldier

 A driver has been charged with DUI (Alcohol) after a deadly crash that killed a Fort Gordon soldier.

Gerald Wright, 37, was arrested following the accident late Sunday night. He is also charged with Homicide By Vehicle-Felony, Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Following Too Closely, and Open Container Liquor Violation.

Investigators say Wright's car hit 34-year-old Sergeant First Class James Brandon Gray while he was pulled over on his motorcycle on Laney-Walker Boulevard. They tell us he died from injuries after being thrown from the bike.

Fort Gordon has released a statement concerning the death of James Gray:

"Sergeant First Class (SFC) James Brandon Gray of Fort Gordon, Georgia, was killed Sunday night at approximately 11 p.m., while riding his motorcycle on Laney Walker and Bobby Jones Expressway. Gray, 34, had pulled off the side of the road, when he was hit by another vehicle and killed on impact.

SFC Gray is survived by his wife and two children.

SFC Gray entered the U.S. Army for Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. in Sept. of 1994. His main job in the Army was a Motor Transport Operator, with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. In 2000, he became a member of the 3rd U.S. Infantry, The Old Guard, at Fort Myer, Va., and in 2003 an Army Drill Sergeant at Fort Eustis, Va.  Gray began his duty at Fort Gordon in 2008, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 347th U.S. Army Reserve Regiment."

An active military member from Fort Gordon died in a motorcycle accident Sunday night.

Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen says the accident happened shortly before 11 p.m. when 34-year-old James Gray was riding his motorcycle east on Laney Walker at I-520.

Gray pulled his bike over when he a 2008 Fort Mustang hit him.

Gray was thrown from his bike and thrown across the intersection.

The coroner pronounced him dead at 11:30 p.m.

An autopsy is set for Monday morning at the GBI Augusta lab.

Authorities say the driver of the Ford Mustang will face charges.
