Traffic safety experts warn Sunday alcohol sales could lead to more dangerous roads. Georgia voters will soon decide whether or not to allow the sale of alcohol on Sunday.
Deputy Donnie Chavis says adding Sunday into the mix may increase the number of drunk drivers on the roads.
Chavis is a member of Richmond County’s DUI Task Force. He says if the vote goes through, they’ll be doing more training sessions to show officers how to locate, identify and arrest impaired drivers.
No matter what the vote, Chavis says he will be working to keep the community safe.
Though retail stores don’t currently sell alcohol on Sundays, it may be sold in restaurants on Sunday in both Georgia and South Carolina, as long as the majority of sales are food related.
