Most of us are not very inclined to fight back when thugs come to steal our stuff. But, I met one couple in Augusta, Tuesday, who thinks sometimes it's the right thing to do.
Robbie and Marilyn Valentine have been married for the past 5 years and work at Southern Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Studio.
Both Robbie and Marilyn are passionate about teaching C.O.B.R.A., which stands for Combat Objective Battle Ready Application.
It’s a new self-defense class that teaches students how to respond to threatening situations.
Robbie Valentine, certified C.O.B.R.A. instructor: "People are grasping it and their going to change their lifestyle because of the education that they received.”
This is an example on how it’s taught. Students learn to recognize predators and when and how to fight back.
Marilyn Valentine, certified C.O.B.R.A. instructor: "It's not inducing paranoia, its just keeping your awareness up and there’s nothing wrong with that in fact, half the battle is being aware."
Robbie Valentine: "Educate the people, recheck the way that they view things, and learn some different decision making skills that’s the purpose of the program."
Marilyn Valentine: "It's for everybody, and everybody can learn something about being aware and how to protect themselves. The techniques that we teach are easy, simple techniques that anybody can do, you don't have to be flexible or brawny, the techniques will work for anybody."
