A Richmond County deputy accused of coercing a woman to take off her clothes to avoid jail time has resigned, according to the 'Augusta Chronicle'.

Deputy Matthew Sides was arrested earlier this week and charged with sexual assault on a person in custody.

A Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested.

Deputy Mathew Sides was arrested Tuesday morning for Sexual Assault on a Person in Custody.

According to a police report, Sides pulled a woman and her boyfriend over in a parking lot on Thomas Lane, behind Regency Mall, on October 9th.

The woman told investigators Sides ordered her to strip naked, and then touched her inner thigh before letting her and her boyfriend go.

Sides is currently suspended with pay and will have a hearing in front of a review board on Wednesday, which will determine whether he is to be fired. At this time, he's still in jail.
