Lakeside High School Student Collapses, Dies After Basketball Game

Augusta, GA --

According to Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten, a 17-year-old Lakeside High School student has died after he collapsed following a basketball game on Monday.

Tuten tells WJBF News Channel 6 that 17-year-old Vergil D. King, from Martinez, Georgia died Monday afternoon at 3:40 p.m. from unknown cause(s).

he death is under investigation, but no foul play is expected at this point. King was a student at Lakeside High School.

King had played a basketball game and had walked off the court, when he lay down on the floor at the end of the court and “grabbed his chest”, he had trouble breathing. EMS was called and he was transported to Doctors Hospital ER where he was pronounced.

King'sbody is being sent to the State Crime Lab in Atlanta for a scheduled autopsy on Tuesday.
