It's a Birthday Party made possible by nearly every person in this room, Adelina Emmi, Medical College of Georgia, “to be able to have a party like this and have people feel that they have been able to fulfill their dream of having a family is just a wonderful thing.”
Dr. Emmi and her colleagues at the Medical College helped to make it possible, Lori Lamar, “I knew they were in my corner, it wasn’t just lets get you thru to see the next patient.”
Like all of these families, Lori and her husband found success with
In Vitro Fertilization, “it was a little frustrating, there were a couple of times when we thought we were going to have to start the cycle over again, because the levels weren't proper...but it all works out.”
Like many of these couples the Lamars went thru a battery of procedure from IUI’s....hormone patches ...and even hormone shots.
Lori Lamar, “It was about 2 yrars before we got pregnant. It was well worth all the shots.”
At 42, she found out she was pregnant, “I had promised myself that I wouldn't do the girly thing, but I didn’t the girly thing and cried.”
Although fertility doesn't help everyone, Dr. Emmi says the success stories make their efforts worth while, “it is just wonderful to be able to see these children as they grow and to be able and to see the joy that we've been able to bring people.”
Having children has brought so much joy and a change of lifestyle to so many in this room, Mr. Lamar “your whole life revolves around your children now. The only people you hang out with now are people with other children.”
For those who longed to have children, it’s a welcome change.
