Augusta ---
Free diabetes screenings for those in the Augusta area. Every Saturday in May you can head to one of 3 Augusta fire stations to get tested. With a simple prick of your finger and a quick blood sample...you could find out if you have the disease.
Cindy Elia, Registered Dietitian: “It's very important to be screened for diabetes because it can be a silent illness. And you can go on not knowing that you have the disease and meanwhile you'll be suffering from complications. Heart disease, there's neuropathy, blindness, kidney disease, so early screening is really, really imperative."
Screenings are every Saturday during the month of May from 10 until 4pm. You can head to fire station number 1 on Broad Street. Station number 5 on Lumpkin Road, or station number 13 on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
