Folks from all across the CSRA taking a look at their health. Specifically, how to prevent and deal with diabetes. Saturday, hundreds turned out for the second annual "Taking Control of Your Diabetes" health expo at Augusta's downtown Marriott. Lots of doctors on hand, as well as Mister Universe and 1999's Miss America. Along with workshops, folks were introduced to some of the latest state of the art technologies in diabetes care.
Dr. Charles Shaefer, Jr, Diabetes Specialist: "Diabetes truly is an epidemic. We see in type 2 diabetes roughly 10 times as much disease occurrence as with the HIV-AIDS epidemic for instance. About 4,500 people a day will be diagnosed with diabetes in and around this area."
