Aiken, SC -- It's the big 'boom' that everyone's been talking about...and local experts are saying it may have been a meteorite. That's attracting the attention of professional meteorite hunters from Phoenix, Arizona.

They're willing to shell out up to $10,000 for the first 1 kilo meteorite that's recovered, that's a little more than 2 pounds. Several meteorites have hit the Earth in the last decade, or so.

Ruben Garcia, meteorite hunter: “Science is really in need of freshly fallen meteorites. They do a lot of tests on them. Obviously, if this produces meteorites, these meteorites were out in space just a few days ago, so scientists can learn a lot from a freshly fallen meteorite.”

If you think you have come across fragments of the meteorite you are asked to send us a News Tip 6 and an email to Ruben Garcia at his website: Mr-Meteorite.net.
