Creative Traffic Barrel Street Art Gains NC College Student Trouble, Fame

A North Carolina college student got in trouble, but got famous for his street art.

Raleigh, NC -- A North Carolina college student got in trouble, but got famous for his street art.

Joseph Carnevale chopped up three stolen orange and white traffic barrels from a construction site to create a massive sculpture of a roadside monster that's on the side of the highway thumbing a ride.

Carnevale says it's art, but police saw it as vandalism and arrested him. They also dismantled the monster.

But...thanks to a strong showing of support on the internet, he's received a ton of publicity. The construction company that owns the barrels even wants him to recreate the monster at their headquarters.

Police say they will not drop the charges.
