Police: Racing May Have Caused Double Fatal GA Wreck

Police spokeswoman Bettina Durant said investigators are looking into the possibility that a Corvette and Mustang were racing on I-285 North before the fatal crash, which occurred between the Lawrenceville Highway and LaVista Road exits. She said the driver of the Corvette lost control of the vehicle, hitting the guard rail and an SUV.

TUCKER, Ga. (AP) - Two people have been killed and two others critically injured in an interstate crash police say may have been caused by two cars racing.

Police spokeswoman Bettina Durant said investigators are looking into the possibility that a Corvette and Mustang were racing on I-285 North before the fatal crash, which occurred between the Lawrenceville Highway and LaVista Road exits. She said the driver of the Corvette lost control of the vehicle, hitting the guard rail and an SUV.

She said two people in the Corvette were killed and two in the SUV injured.

Durant identified the dead as 20-year-old Brandon Phillips, the driver, and 18-year-old Jordan Makanani.

Authorities are looking for the Mustang driver who they believe witnessed the accident.
