Augusta, GA -- A talented swimmer and Family Y volunteer will soon have a special-needs pool built and named in her memory.

20-year old Katie York died last May after falling ill with viral encephalitis, when she was 17. She had been a competitive swimmer, but after she got sick, she made it her mission to help others with disabilities swim and benefit from pool time.

Construction of Katie's Pool will begin this fall...and the Family Y would like to open the pool next spring.

A Courage Award will now be given in her honor, every year. Her parents, Ron and Melrose York, were recognized Tuesday for showing exemplary courage throughout Katie's illness and death.
