UPDATE: Abused Animal Gets Second Chance At Life

UPDATE: Abused Animal Gets Second Chance At Life

It's a story we first brought you in July. A young puppy named Bella was a suspected bait dog, and she was taken in by a local vet. The vet said it was on of the worst cases of animal cruelty she had ever seen, but now you wouldn't even recognize her. If you look at Bella today, her eye is the only reminder of what she's gone through. Someone found her on the road and dropped her off at Caremore Animal Hospital.

Augusta, GA -- We begin tonight with a story we brought you in July. A young puppy named Bella was a suspected bait dog, and she was taken in by a local vet. The vet said it was on of the worst cases of animal cruelty she had ever seen, but now you wouldn't even recognize her.

Caroline Clark: “She'd been through a lot in a short period of time. If you see her in the yard playing, you would never know.”

If you look at Bella today, her eye is the only reminder of what she's gone through. Someone found her on the road and dropped her off at Caremore Animal Hospital. When we introduced her to you 4 months ago, this is what she looked like. Her belly was full of parasites with no meat on her bones. Scars from attacks and her eye was so infected, it's now removed...the other she can't see out of.

Caroline Clark: “I saw the story on the news, so the following day I called Caremore Veterinarian Clinic and inquired on her, what was needed, when would she go up for adoption."

Within 2 weeks, Caroline Clark became 'Bella's' new mom, nursing her back to health and giving her a second chance.

Caroline Clark: “I felt like I needed to step in and see what i could do. She's grown probably 3 times her original size, she's gotten a personality, she plays, she's just like a normal puppy. No scarring on her back…all of her hair is filled in.

Every time Clark looks at Bella, she says she's still shocked - shocked that anyone could have been so malicious to this innocent dog.

Caroline Clark: “I can't see how anybody could hurt an animal or a human being. I mean, they're innocent, they can't defend themselves, they're innocent. There's no reason anyone should have to go through that, I mean especially, I mean a little puppy."

At last check, no charges were ever brought against anyone because no one ever came forward with any information.
