Warrenville, SC Man Killed In Friday Morning Crash

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, 24-year-old Marcus A. Bass, from Warrenville, SC was pronounced dead at the scene of a single vehicle crash this morning. The crash happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Highway 421, near the Gentry Hill Road.

Aiken, SC -- According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, 24-year-old Marcus A. Bass, from Warrenville, SC was pronounced dead at the scene of a single vehicle crash Friday morning. The crash happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Highway 421, near the Gentry Hill Road.

According to witnesses, Mr. Bass was traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass in the right lane. Mr. Bass was the driver of a 2000 Ford Expedition traveling south on Highway 421, in Warrenville, SC. He lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck several trees and was partially ejected through the sunroof.

A passenger (name unknown) was transported to Medical College of Georgia. His status is unknown.

Both driver and passenger were not wearing their seatbelts.

Speed appears to be a significant factor in this crash.

This is the 35th fatal crash in Aiken County in 2009. The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office. Toxicology is pending.
