Some special surfers get a chance to hang ten and inspire so many.
The Association of Amputee Surfers put on its annual "Operation Restoration" this weekend. It took place at Pismo Beach, California.
Eighteen disabled men and women signed up to learn to surf. These new surfers say it's given them the courage to try new things.
Veteran Dee Wright talked about the experience: "I'm doin' it! I'm doin' it!" "I think it's given me courage, you know, to try new things, you know. I never thought I would surf. Never. Me in a wet suit?" "I couldn't really do a lot of the things that I was normally used to doing. So I started out slow with occupational therapy and physical therapy and worked my way up to-- I'm surfing! It's cool!"
