World Series Game 5 Suspended Due To Rain

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A World Series champion will not be crowned Monday night. Mother Nature made that impossible.

Game 5 of the Fall Classic has been suspended by rain at Philadelphia with the Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Major League Baseball hopes to resume the game Tuesday, although more rain is in the forecast.

The Rays knotted the score on Carlos Pena’s RBI single with two outs in the top of the sixth. Evan Longoria flied out to end the half-inning before the tarp was rolled onto the field.

Everything was looking sunny for the Phillies after Shane Victorino laced a two-run single in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0. Longoria started the Rays’ comeback with his first hit of the series, an RBI single in the fourth.

Phils starter Cole Hamels allowed two earned runs and five hits in six innings.

Scott Kazmir was lifted in the fifth, charged with two runs, four hits and six walks.
