Lithonia, GA— When you think about it…Vernon Forrest was not your typical star boxer. He never wore flashy jewelry…he never really talked a lot of trash…and outside the ring…he was never surrounded by bodyguards.
He just wanted to live a normal life and make a difference in other people’s lives…and that’s how he was remembered Monday as more than 1,000 people attended Forrest’s funeral…including Forrest’s 12-year-old son, Vernon Forrest, Jr.
The 2-hour service featured a number of speakers, who spoke about Forrest’s life outside the ring…including Kery Davis…the head of HBO Sports Programming. It was Davis who signed Forrest to a multi-million dollar fight deal after Forrest beat Sugar Shane Mosley, for the first time. Davis remembered asking Forrest how he’d like to be introduced to the world!!!
