Former NBA Player Randy Smith Dies At 60

Former NBA player Randy Smith has died following a career in which he starred for the Buffalo Braves in the 1970s. He was 60.

NORWICH, Conn. (AP) - Former NBA player Randy Smith has died following a career in which he starred for the Buffalo Braves in the 1970s. He was 60.

William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich says Smith was brought into the hospital’s emergency room about noon Thursday and was pronounced dead.

Smith played 13 years in the NBA and set a record for playing in 906 consecutive games from 1972-83. His mark was eclipsed by A.C. Green in 1977.

Smith was drafted by the Buffalo Braves in the seventh round in 1971.

A small forward, he played seven seasons before the team moved to San Diego. He also played for Cleveland, New York and Atlanta.

Smith averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game for his career. He finished with 16,262 points.
