Atlanta Falcons receiver Harry Douglas is out for the season after suffering a knee injury. Coach Mike Smith says Thursday that Douglas suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a drill on Wednesday and will miss the season.

Green Bay Packers GM Won’t Rule Out Interest In Vick
Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson isn’t ruling out potential interest in Michael Vick. Asked Tuesday about the possibility of signing Vick, Thompson said the team looks “at all options at all times” but didn’t want to speculate about the odds of the team actually pursuing him.

A hometown celebration for Michael Vick in Virginia has been postponed. An organizer for the “Michael Vick Community Celebration” scheduled for Saturday said the job-hunting former NFL quarterback informed him Monday he could not appear at the Newport News event because of a conflict.

Thousands Expected For Vernon Forrests Funeral
Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield was an early arrival among the thousands expected to turn out on Monday to remember three-time boxing champion Vernon Forrest, who was killed in an attempted robbery. The funeral service is at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, just east of Atlanta. Other notables, including boxers Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley and R&B singer Frankie Beverly, are expected to attend.

Bengals owner Mike Brown hopes some other NFL team decides to give quarterback Michael Vick another chance. Brown praised commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision to conditionally reinstate Vick, giving him a chance to resume his career after serving jail time for running a dogfighting ring. Brown, who is known for giving players extra chances, said Tuesday he hopes some team signs Vick soon.

Michael Vick Grateful For NFL Reinstatement
Michael Vick could play in regular-season NFL games as early as October. Now he just needs to find a team. The suspended former Atlanta quarterback says he’s grateful to be conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Vick can immediately participate in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and could play in the final two preseason games if he can find a team that will sign him. A number of teams have already said they would not.

Augusta Native and World Champion Boxer Vernon Forrest Killed in Shooting
Former boxing champion and U.S. Olympian Vernon Forrest was shot and killed in an attempted carjacking in Northwest Atlanta, a police spokesperson said. Lt. Keith Meadows with the Atlanta police department told WSB Radio, the Augusta native was putting air in the tires of his Jaguar around 11 p.m. Saturday at a gas station on White Hall St. at McDaniel Blvd. Investigators said at least two men jumped out of a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo and tried to steal Forrest’s car. The boxer had a gun and started running after the suspects.
