Michael Vick To Discuss Dogfighting At Philadelphia School
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will speak to a group of high school students about dogfighting and animal rights. Vick is appearing Tuesday at Nueva Esperanza Academy in the city’s Hunting Park neighborhood. He’ll be joined by Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States.

Fulton County’s District Attorney says he will seek the death penalty against three men charged with murdering boxer Vernon Forrest. Wednesday, Forrests’ brother Alphonso talked only with WJBF News Channel 6 about the ongoing murder investigation. He says he and his family met with the District Attorney Tuesday.

John Smoltz has been released by the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander signed with the Red Sox last January after two decades with Atlanta, hoping he could recover from shoulder surgery. But he struggled. And after eight starts with the Red Sox, Smoltz was 2-5 with an 8.32 ERA.

Boston Red Sox Cut Ineffective John Smoltz
The Boston Red Sox have cut struggling pitcher John Smoltz. Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein delivered the news to Smoltz on Friday. The 42-year-old righty was designated for assignment, meaning Boston has 10 days to trade or release him.
