The Lou Brissie Story Hits Bookstores

North Augusta, SC—On Memorial Day, it’s hard not to think about a true American hero, who lives in North Augusta.The Lou Brissie story can not be told enough. In fact, it went national this past Saturday, when Fox aired a special piece on Brissie’s life during its pre-game baseball show.

His story is also being told in a terrific book, ‘The Corporal Was A Pitcher’. Nearly killed in World War II, Brissie underwent 23 surgeries on his shattered left leg. He went onto pitch 7 seasons in the Major Leagues and threw 3 innings in the 1949 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The 85-year old Brissie still can’t believe somebody would write a book about his life. “As I’ve told my wife several times, it’s very strange,“ said Brissie. “Mr Berkow wanted to do it and talked to me several times over several years. He felt it would serve a purpose and I agreed to do it.“

The ‘Corporal Was A Pitcher’ was written by Pulitzer-prize winning writer Ira Berkow. The book can be found in most major book stores.
