Augusta State booked an eight-over 296 Saturday and is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Course.

Louisville is located 45 miles from Augusta National National Golf Club. It took Brian Gay just less than 39 years to make the trip. The former Louisville resident won his first full-field event on the PGA Tour, Sunday, in Hilton Head, and as such earned his first-ever invitation to the Masters. Angel Cabrera of Argentina has won the 2009 Masters tournament with a par on the second sudden-death playoff hole to defeat Kenny Perry.

Chad Campbell was eliminated on the first sudden death playoff hole Sunday evening at Augusta National, leaving Kenny Perry and Angel Cabrera heading to the 10th hole for a second playoff hole to decide the 2009 Masters. 

A supercharged duel between the world’s two best players ended with a thud Sunday at the Masters and someone else likely will win the green jacket.

Phil Mickelson has tied the Masters record by shooting a 6-under 30 on the front side at Augusta National, surging into contention for his third green jacket.

Augusta State University is where Masters rookie Oliver Wilson played his college golf and became the school’s only 3-time All-America selection. Since turning pro in 2003, the Englishman has made one European Ryder Cup team and soared to thirty-ninth in the world rankings. Wilson plays all over the globe, but he proudly calls Augusta his second home.  He speaks with WJBF News Channel 6 Sports’ Chris Kane about his old college days and his home just a fence jump away from The Augusta National Golf Club.
