AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Phil Mickelson has tied the Masters record by shooting a 6-under 30 on the front side at Augusta National, surging into contention for his third green jacket.
Playing in a high-charged final-day group with Tiger Woods, Mickelson birdied six of the first eight holes and saved par through the trees and out of a deep bunker at No. 9 to tie the front-nine mark set by Johnny Miller in 1975 and equaled by Greg Norman in 1988 and K.J. Choi in 2004.
Mickelson made the turn at 10 under, just one stroke behind leader Kenny Perry. Lefty started the round facing a seven-stroke deficit to co-leaders Perry and Angel Cabrera.
