COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The calendar says it’s the beginning of August, but fall is coming to South Carolina and Clemson.

Both the Gamecocks and Tigers hold their first football practices Tuesday night.

Clemson is looking for a starting quarterback and has a young team in coach Dabo Swinney’s first full year. The Tigers open their season Sept. 5 against Middle Tennessee at Memorial Stadium.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says he is committed to giving sophomore Stephen Garcia plenty of chances to run the Gamecocks offense. South Carolina opens its season with a Thursday night game Sept. 3 at North Carolina State.
