CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive says there is no reason to have a “public hanging” when game officials make bad calls.
Speaking to a Chattanooga civic club Thursday, Slive was asked why the SEC doesn’t publicly reprimand game officials for mistakes.
The league has acknowledged there was a bad call this past weekend when Georgia receiver A.J. Green was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
He says the SEC has an accountability system for officials and if somebody is not good enough they won’t stay. The commissioner says he’s “just never felt that a public hanging in the square” will make better officials.
Slive also talked about the SEC’s lucrative TV deals and says he does not favor a football playoff.

In the Vandy / South Carolina game the replay official awarded a touchdown to USC which clearly was not under control. If the games outcome rest in the hands of one official in a both and nothing happens but if a coach speaks up he is held to a higher standard—THIS IS NOT RIGHT
