COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says he hopes his four new offensive assistants can help him revamp a unit that looks nothing like the successful offenses he helped build at Florida.
The new staff is green, only one was an assistant at a Bowl Championship Series school last season, and one was out of coaching in 2008. But all are hungry to overhaul an offense that finished last in the Southeastern Conference in rushing and led the country with 27 interceptions last season.
New offensive line coach Eric Wolford says Spurrier wants to run the ball better, because the inability to run put too much pressure on Gamecocks quarterbacks last year.
The only holdover on offense is Spurrier’s son, receivers coach Steve Spurrier, Jr.
