COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - There’ll be no Pioneer Bowl in 2008.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association said Friday they suspended this year’s game, which was to take place December 6th at Benedict College’s Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.

Champions of the two NCAA Division II leagues have played in the game since 1997. However, CIAA commissioner Leon Kerry said the two leagues decided to focus their efforts on bringing the game back for 2009.

The SIAC and CIAA are the country’s two oldest athletic leagues for historically black colleges and universities.
