Georgia Football Practice Notes

Athens, Ga.—- The No. 9-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1 SEC) practiced in jerseys, shorts, shoulder pads and helmets for 90 minutes Wednesday, and the good news was nobody got hurt.

After practice, Georgia head coach Mark Richt announced that Bulldog sophomore linebacker Akeem Hebron went down during Tuesday’s session and will miss the remainder of the season due to a fracture dislocation of the left ankle. Also, injuries continue to mount at tight end as redshirt freshman Aron White sprained his right shoulder Tuesday and will not play Saturday against No. 11 LSU (5-1, 3-1 SEC). White’s status will be evaluated “week to week,“ according to Richt.

“Akeem (Hebron) was injured on the very last play of practice yesterday, and it will be four to six months of recovery for him so that will end his season,“ Richt said. It was a downer, a very painful injury for him, and it kind of put a damper on yesterday’s practice. Today, we brought the tempo down, made sure we would be fresh for Saturday, and it was a good day.“

Georgia looks to get back senior linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and senior tight end Tripp Chandler against the Tigers. They have missed the last two games due to injuries.

Richt said he is encouraged with the continued improvement of Georgia’s young offensive line including the play of true freshman center Ben Jones. However, they will face another stern test against the veteran defensive front of the Tigers.

“Ben is getting better and better,“ said Richt. “He is tough, smart, loves to practice and play.“

At times, LSU’s front four has featured all defensive ends, and Richt said the Tigers are talented enough to do that and be successful.

“They can get some mismatches at guard that way, and they still hold up against the run,“ said Richt. “They all can run and are big. I’m sure some eyes will pop out a bit during pregame warmups.“

CBS will televise Saturday’s Georgia-LSU game live with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. ET. All Georgia games also are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and on both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on both georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, and on XM satellite radio. In addition, the LSU game will be broadcast nationally by Westwood One Radio Sports.
