ATHENS, Ga.—- Georgia’s football program added its 18th signee after wide receiver Marlon Brown committed to the Bulldogs during the national signing day on Wednesday afternoon.

Brown, a native of Memphis, Tenn., totaled 1,785 all-purpose yards with 19 touchdowns in 2008, including 338 yards and four scores in the state championships game.  Brown, who attends Harding Academy, became the first Memphis private schooler to be named a Parade Magazine All-American in 2009.  He was also named Tennessee’s Mr.
Football following the 2008 season and was named to the USA Today All- USA Second Team.

Quoting Head Coach Mark Richt
Opening statement…
“We are very, very thankful for our assistant coaches who have worked so hard on this class. We’ve already been preparing for 2010 and beyond. There’s not even a recruiting season anymore; it’s just an on- going thing. It’s an awful lot of work. Rodney (Garner) has been organizing our recruiting efforts for the last 10 years for Georgia and has done a fantastic job. I’m thankful for the job you have done, Rodney, and the staff here. We have so many other people to thank within our program.  We’ve had 17 guys committed for quite some time now, and 17 guys are coming to Georgia. We’ve had not one waver, although there has been a lot of battling going on. A lot of schools have been fighting like mad to steal some of our guys away from us, and our guys have held true. That’s a tribute to them and their families. It’s a tribute to our coaches and they job they did, telling the recruits everything in a positive way. We are always going to talk about our programs and not other programs, and we are always going to tell the truth so there are no secrets and nothing that can pop up and bite you and hurt you in the long run. I think that’s a tribute to the way we do things here.

“We tend to the majority of our classes wrapped up pretty early. I think our coaches are pretty thorough in their evaluation of these young men. They do a great job getting offers out at the right time.
A lot of the guys are very excited to jump on board early and get it over with so they can go through their senior year and concentrate on their season and academics and leadership. I do think a lot of people enjoy the drama on signing day. They want something exciting to happen on that day. I’m about taking care of business the right way.“
