COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former South Carolina football coach and athletic director Paul Dietzel will serve as an honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Arkansas.

Dietzel won a national championship at LSU in 1958, then led the Gamecocks to their only Atlantic Coast Conference title after going 6-0 in league play in 1969. Dietzel went 42-53-1 during his nine seasons (1966-74) at South Carolina.

Dietzel will sign copies of his recently published book, “Call Me Coach: A Life in College Football,“ on Friday at the office of KeenanSuggs Insurance.

On Saturday, Dietzel will be on field for the opening coin toss for South Carolina’s Homecoming contest at Williams-Brice Stadium.
