CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina college coach accused of drunken driving has been suspended from his job.
Coastal Carolina University athletic director Warren Koegel also said Monday that head track and field coach Jeff Jacobs will not coach for the university’s first track meet of the season Sept. 4 against the University of South Carolina.
A statement from the school said Jacobs has agreed to talk with a counselor.
The 42-year-old was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence. He told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach later Saturday that he apologized to the university community and its athletes and that he takes responsibility for his actions.
Jacobs is scheduled to appear in traffic court Sept. 21.
