South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier doesn’t even want to hear suggestions this year’s Gamecocks might have a late season swoon like the past two years. Spurrier pointed out Tuesday that the Gamecocks are 6-3, which for this year’s team full of young players is pretty good.

South Carolina safety Chris Culliver will miss Saturday’s game against Arkansas. Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday that Culliver’s left shoulder is still bothering him. But the coach also said he is angry the junior didn’t report how sore his shoulder was before last Saturday’s game against Tennessee.

UGA’s Mark Richt Mum On Whether He’ll Bench QB Joe Cox
Georgia coach Mark Richt isn’t saying if he plans to bench quarterback Joe Cox. Cox was yanked from a 41-17 loss to top-ranked Florida after throwing three interceptions, and Richt declined to say Sunday night if the move is permanent. Sophomore Logan Gray also struggled, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown.
Florida’s Brandon Spikes Suspended For Gouging Eyes During UGA Game
Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt after the star linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory. Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.

ASU Lady Jaguars Picked 12th in PBC Hoops
For the second time in three years, the Clayton State Lakers have been selected as the women’s basketball preseason favorite in a poll of the league’s head coaches released today. Clayton State received seven of a possible 12 first-place votes, just edging out defending PBC Champions Francis Marion. Lander was third followed by a tie between GCSU and Columbus State for fourth.
USC Aiken Lady Pacers Picked to Finish 6th in PBC Hoops
The USC Aiken women’s basketball team was chosen to finish sixth in the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Basketball preseason poll.
The poll of the league’s head coaches was released by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.

Clemson’s C.J. Spiller Back In Heisman Trophy Race
Clemson star C.J. Spiller has run his way back into the Heisman Trophy race. Spiller gained 106 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers’ win over Wake Forest, then followed that with a school-record 310 all-purpose yards in Clemson’s 40-37 overtime victory against Miami last week.
Augusta State Men’s Basketball Team Picked To Win Peach Belt Conference
Coming on the heels of back-to-back Elite Eight appearances, the Augusta State Jaguars have been selected the preseason favorite to win the 2009-10 PBC men’s basketball championship in a poll of the league’s head coaches released today. ASU received 10 of a possible 12 first-place votes in the poll for 142 points, 19 ahead of Clayton State. USC Aiken was third in the poll with GCSU fourth and Lander fifth.

USC To Wear Camo Wounded Warrior Uniforms For Florida Game
Under Armour has announced Tuesday that they have partnered with the University of South Carolina, the University of Maryland, and the Wounded Warrior Project. Players will wear special uniforms with comouflage striping and numbers on November 14th.

Alabama coach Nick Saban says his kickers won’t use tape to spot field goals and extra points. South Carolina Steve Spurrier pointed out Leigh Tiffin’s use of the white tape to spot his kicks in last week’s game and reported it to the Southeastern Conference. He said Tiffin quickly put the tape in his pocket after kicking. Saban says Tide coaches have found that more than half of the SEC teams put something such as a piece of grass or mud on the field so the kicker knows where the ball will be spotted.
