The Return of Raisin’ Kane Blog and this one’s for Chachi O’Nasty!

Last month, something was brought to my attention by Chachi O’Nasty. Now that I got your attention, let me explain who Chachi O’Nasty is. She’s a member of the Soul City Sirens, Augusta’s only Roller Derby team. I was at practice doing some interviews with the team and the first thing Miss O’Nasty brings up to me is that I haven’t blogged in awhile. She’s right and it’s time to re-enter the blogosphere. By the way, in case you didn’t know, Roller Derby is a REAL sport!!! Alright, Chachi….this blog is dedicated to you.

Just because Augusta State’s Garret Siler wasn’t selected in the 2009 NBA Draft, it doesn’t mean we won’t see him going toe-to-toe with Dwight Howard next season. Siler will now spend his summer playing in the NBA’s free-agent camp. From there, Garret will most likely attend an NBA team’s traning camp as a free agent. Siler’s potential is unlimited. The 7-footer dropped 25 pounds in the past 2 months and wowed NBA scouts at a number of private workouts leading up to the draft. He has the size, skill, and work ethic to make it in the NBA. If it doesn’t happen this year, it will eventually and what a story it will be.

Now that the U.S. Open is history, I’m reading a lot of articles wondering if Lucas Glover will be a 1-hit major championship winner. I don’t believe Lucas will fall into the Shaun Micheel/Rich Beem category. His temperament is ideal for U.S. Open conditions and I truly see him seriously contending for another silver trophy down the road. And how bout former Augusta National caddie Don Cooper helping lead Glover around the muddy Bethpage track? The Edgefield,SC native has been on Glover’s bag for 6 seasons. Lucas went to Clemson and “Coop” went to South Carolina. Who knew Gamecocks and Tigers could get along?

I wish Tiger Woods would play more tournament golf leading up to majors. As it stands right now, he’ll tee it up only once (AT&T National) before the Open Championship at Turnberry (July 16-19).

Congratulations to former Augusta Prep star Cortland Lowe, who just missed making the cut in his first U.S. Open at Bethpage. Cortland played practice rounds with Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington and is more determined than ever to make it onto the PGA Tour. Earlier this year, Lowe made the cut at the Buick Invitational in San Diego. This fall he’ll give it his best shot at PGA Tour Qualifying School.

High School football practice starts on August 1st…..my how time flies.

In my last blog, I predicted that Pittsburgh would beat Arizona in the Super Bowl 21-17. The final score of Super Bowl XLIII: Pittsburgh 27 Arizona 23. Yes, I’m patting myself on the back!

Just read, ‘A Son of the Game’ by James Dodson. He’s one of my favorite golf writers of all-time.  If you ever played golf with your father or son, it’s a must read. It makes me want to grab my Dad right now and tee it up at Pinehurst Course No. 2! And while we’re on the subject of Dodson books, pick up ‘Final Rounds’ as well.

Spending July 4th in Chicago at Wrigley Field….does it get any better than this?
