Savannah Police Chief Resigns
After less than three years on the job, Savannah Chatham Metro Police Chief Michael Berkow submitted his resignation on Friday. Berkow says leaving is difficult, but he has missed three years of his son’s live, and a new opportunity will bring the two closer together. Berkow will be based in California, as President and Chief Operating Officer of a new division of a company called Altegrity, a large company that consults on international policing efforts. Berkow says he was approached about this position in April. Berkow says he will remain in Savannah through mid-October.

GA Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Death of 9-Year Old In Court
The man charged in a weekend car accident that killed a young boy will have to wait until Thursday to find out if he will be allowed to bond out of jail. James Malcolm Bell, 23, is charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree and driving under the influence, among other things, in the Catalina Drive accident that left 9-year-old Ashley Mosley dead, Saturday evening.

DISH Network To Pay Out Almost $6 Million Because Of Sales Complaints
After what the Georgia Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs calls “serious complaints about sales practices”, Dish Network says it will pay 5.9 million dollars. The payment is in response to alleged violations of consumer protection laws in 45 other states. The company, by the way, denies any wrongdoing.

Mother Of Fallen GA National Guardsman Speaks
A Bulloch County family is remembering a hero, beloved son, and brother who was killed in action in Afghanistan. Sgt. Brock Chavers of the Georgia National Guard died when an IED exploded Monday. He was assigned to the Americus company D, 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Division. Chavers was one of six children and being in the military was a family affair. He followed in the footsteps of two of his older brothers by joining the National Guard, and his youngest brother just finished basic training for the Army. His mother says Brock was the most giving person you would ever meet.

GA Man Loses Home, Pot In Late Night Fire
A late-night fire consumed part of a Savannah man’s home and all of his pot. A call to extinguish the blaze at a home in the 2200 block of Louis Mills Boulevard turned into a drug bust just before 2 a.m. Saturday when firefighters and police discovered nine marijuana plants and a .22-caliber Ruger semi-automatic pistol.

Miley Cyrus is all the rage on Tybee Island, GA right now. Monday marked the first day of filming for her new movie, “The Last Song.” If things were a slow go at the south end for you or if you’re wondering why the streets were closed, it’s because of the filming. All streets south of 18th Street are closed, which means no parking and no driving. No exceptions. Miley’s presence has everyone on the look out. WSAV News 3’s Randi Hempel spent the day on the island, where everyone was talking about Miley.
