When soldiers return home from to the front lines it may be hard for them to adjust back into society, but a new program is aimed at helping them re-establish and help themselves. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has the story.

President Barack Obama says he will make his decision on new troops for Afghanistan in “the coming weeks.“

President Barack Obama keeps his attention on global terror and security matters on Tuesday, as he continues a series of meetings with advisers and others on Afghanistan.

Thousands of men and women have lost their lives in the serving our country, and Thursday, along with Fort Gordon, we salute a mother who lost her son on the battlefield. WJBF News Channel 6’s Kimberely Scott spent Thursday morning in Thomson, and has this story.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, says in a confidential report that without additional forces, the war against insurgents will end in failure, The Washington Post reported Monday.

U.S. Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham say the Obama administration should act quickly to send additional troops to Afghanistan. The Republican lawmakers from Arizona and South Carolina made those comments Monday during a town hall meeting at The Citadel, South Carolina’s military college.

Aiken County came out to honor its fallen heroes, on Monday. There were three special guests who took part in the ceremony: a band of bothers…actual ones, all Marines. This Memorial Day, their family watched with bittersweet, but still overwhelming pride. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.

President Barack Obama is promising newly graduated Navy and Marine officers that he will only send young Americans into battle when “it is absolutely necessary” and when the mission is well-defined. Speaking to this year’s graduating class at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., Friday, Obama talked of the “promise that I make to you.“ He vowed to give troops whatever equipment and other support they need to get the job done, both now and in the future.

South Carolina will be allowed to present oral arguments to the nation’s highest court as to why utilities and municipalities should stay out of the state’s water dispute with North Carolina. The U.S. Supreme Court did not give a time frame or issue any other comment in making its decision Monday.

President Hamid Karzai says the new U.S. strategy for Afghanistan increases the chance that his government and its international partners will successfully address the rising militant threat in the country. He said in a statement that the strategy President Barack Obama unveiled Friday will benefit both the Afghan people and the region.

The White House says President Barack Obama is expected to decide “relatively soon” on his approach to ending the war in Iraq.

About the time Barack Obama was learning of his victory, Tuesday night, Gazan militants were firing rockets into Israel. That is in addition to the ongoing war in Iraq, and Obama will have his hands full in the Middle East. Phil Black gives us the view from Baghdad.
