Record turnout for advance voting in Augusta and big numbers of first time voters, but are these newcomers slowing down the process, adding to the waits that are running in some cases two hours long?

Florida’s governor has signed an executive order keeping polling places open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. because early voting lines have been long. In Georgia, lines were down to under four hours in most places by Tuesday, but the long waits prompted the Democratic Party to urge Secretary of State Karen Handel to keep the polls open longer during the week and over the weekend.

Advance voting has begun in Richmond and Columbia Counties. Monday, October 27th, marked the beginning of advance voting, and will run through Friday, October 31st. We have a list of locations for you to cast your advance vote.

The nonpartisan group Election Protection said they hope to have 600 volunteer monitors at polling place in metro Atlanta and Macon alert for voting problems.

In Aiken County,415 people voted Monday, the plan was for voters to go to the Old Kalmia Mall on Highway 1 to vote. But last week, elections officials said only the Board of Elections headquarters would be open for voting. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker explains.

More than a thousand people cast their ballots for the November general election this week in Richmond County.  Board of Elections Director Lynn Bailey passed along the numbers to us.
