President encourages Americans to visit Serve.gov to find and create service projects in their communities, share stories about projects they’re working on.

The last of 148,000 names will be read aloud in Riverside, California. For nine days, volunteers have been reading the roll call of the dead…to remember the town’s fallen soldiers… and heroes. ABC News Mike von Fremd has more.

The Clearwater Fire Department continues to answer calls, despite losing its chief and two others. Chief Mike Toole was fired by the Clearwater Water Commisioner. Earlier this week, Toole turned himself in, after a two-year old warrant for a misdemeaner surfaced at the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The state Department of Health and Environmental Control said Friday the number of confirmed cases of H1N1 flu in the state is still 13, despite the national Centers for Disease Control’s announcement that South Carolina has 16 confirmed cases. WJBF News Channel 6’s SC Capitol reporter, Robert Kittle, has more.

Storm clean-up continued in Augusta, on Saturday. Over on Bungalow Road, neighbors spent time helping out in yards. There are still trees that need to be removed, and houses that need to be repaired…but residents here tell us things are going smoothly because of everybody lending a hand.

In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, the Doctors Hospital Volunteer Guild tells us they donate more than 20,000 hours of service a year caring for patients, but that’s not all. Recently, the Guild gave $4,900 to Doctors Hospital.

The Lions Club Organization has been around for nearly 100 years, providing service for the community…lately though, money and volunteers have been coming up short. However, the Aiken chapter has something strange happening…membership is soaring. We’ll tell you why some members say it’s because of the economy. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.
