New SRS Job Fairs Coming To The CSRA
Remember that big Savannah River Site job fair in Columbia? Now there’s one coming to a town near you. There are hundreds of new jobs added because of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The first job fair is June 17th in Barnwell at the Primary School, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., in the afternoon. The second is June 24th at USC-Salkehatchie in Allendale, SC…also from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Both events will be preceded with a town hall meeting at noon.

Why Is Allendale County’s Unemployment Rate So High?
We take a look at high unemployment numbers in South Carolina. Out of all the counties in the Palmetto State, the county with highest unemployment hits closer to home…Allendale County. It has fewer people per square mile than any other county. Jack Kuenzie spoke with county officials. He finds out why so many are unemployed in the county.

Legislators Mull Study Tied To USC Campus Closure
Legislators want the University of South Carolina to come up with details of how much is spent running its branch campuses. The House Ways and Means Committee discussed a budget measure Thursday that would require USC to provide a study of its seven branches. Gov. Mark Sanford has called for closing the USC-Salkehatchie campuses in Allendale and Walterboro as well as USC-Union and USC-Lancaster.

City Leaders Say Closing USC-Salkehatchie Would Devastate Community
Governor Mark Sanford has proposed closing the campus of USC-Salkehatchie to deal with a budget crisis. The news has students and city leaders worried. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford has more.
