Georgia’s July Unemployment Rate Rises To 10.3 Percent; Jobless Population Approaching 500,000
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported Thursday that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.3 percent in July, up two-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 10.1 percent in June.

TTX Workers In North Augusta To Be Furloughed
More local workers are furloughed, thanks to the economy. A spokeswoman for TTX Corporation, in North Augusta, SC says the company is sending home 170 of it’s 234 employees.

Computer Glitch Sends Double Unemployment Checks to 1,250 South Carolinians
A computer glitch Sunday at the South Carolina Employment Security Commission sent 1,250 people two unemployment benefits checks this week. Now, the agency is scrambling to notify all of the recipients that they need to mail or bring back one of the checks to a local Workforce Center. SC Jobless Rate High, But Essentially Flat For June
For the first time in months, South Carolina’s unemployment rate has stayed virtually steady. The state Employment Security Commission announced Friday that the jobless rate was 12.1 percent in June.
Unemployment Tops 10 Percent In 16 States In June
The U.S. Labor Department says unemployment topped 10 percent in 16 states last month. The rate in Michigan surpassed 15 percent, the first time any state hit that mark since 1984.
Unemployment Insurance Tax Could More Than Double for South Carolina Businesses
South Carolina’s 12.1 percent unemployment rate, third-highest in the country, could start affecting you next year even if you’re not unemployed. State officials say it’s likely the state will have to raise the unemployment insurance tax that businesses pay, which pays the benefits for people who lose their jobs. Foreclosures Up As Unemployment Soars
The number of U.S. households on the verge of losing their homes soared by nearly 15 percent in the first half of the year as more people lost their jobs and were unable to pay their monthly mortgage bills.

Georgia Unemployment Numbers Up Again
