Gay Rights Group Dissatisfied With Obama Administration Stance

At least one gay rights group isn’t satisfied with the Obama administration’s stance on a federal marriage law. The Justice Department is defending 1996’s Defense of Marriage Act in court, claiming that a reasonable argument can be made that the law is constitutional. But President Barack Obama still insists he wants the act repealed.

The search for an American citizen who’s believed to be part of a North Carolina group of aspiring terrorists is focused overseas. Seven suspects are under arrest, and authorities believe an eighth individual is in Pakistan.

Feds Spike Georgia Law Requiring Citizenship Checks For Voting

The Justice Department has rejected Georgia’s attempt to require prospective voters in the state to provide proof of citizenship. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed the bill last month making Georgia the second state in the nation to require newly registering voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before casting a ballot. Under the Voting Rights Act, the state was required to get preclearance for the measure from the U.S. Department of Justice.

After 11 years, the United States Department of Justice has ended monitoring of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
