President Barack Obama says he will make his decision on new troops for Afghanistan in “the coming weeks.“

As he sets a new course for the United States in Afghanistan, President Barack Obama is apparently ready to draw distinctions between the Taliban and al-Qaida—and focus the fight on al-Qaida. His spokesman, Robert Gibbs, says, “They’re not the same type of group.“

Eight years ago, Wednesday, U.S. forces went on the offensive against the Taliban, in Afghanistan…the first front in the war on terror after the 9/11 attacks. Wednesday, President Barack Obama will meet with his national security team in a broad review of Afghan policy, with big decisions ahead. ABC News’ T.J. Winick has more.
