Newly released documents show that Swiss authorities set in motion the arrest of fugitive director Roman Polanski. A series of e-mails obtained by The Associated Press show that the Swiss tipped off their U.S. counterparts about Polanski’s imminent arrival at a Zurich film festival.

SC Governor Sanford Heads To Europe For Family Vacation

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and his family have arrived in London for a two-week European vacation. Television station WBTV in Charlotte reports that Sanford, his wife and four sons boarded a U.S. Airways flight bound for London’s Gatwick Airport on Wednesday evening. The governor initially had said they were leaving Thursday.

South Carolina’s first lady says Gov. Mark Sanford’s actions are “inexcusable” but she is willing to forgive him. Jenny Sanford on Thursday made her first public statement since her husband revealed in Associated Press interviews that he believes his Argentine mistress is his soul mate but he is trying to fall back in love with his wife.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has backed out of a promise to release personal financial records proving he did not use state money for trips to see his mistress.

South Carolina health officials have identified eight additional ‘probable’ cases of swine flu, bringing the total number to 10. Dr. Jerry Gibson with the Department of Health and Environmental Control said Wednesday the agency is also investigating 41 ‘suspected’ cases of swine flu.

Indicted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has lost his bid to travel outside the country to appear on reality TV. U.S. District Judge James Zagel on Tuesday refused to modify the terms of Blagojevich’s bail, so the ousted Democrat governor won’t be able to go to Costa Rica to appear on a planned reality show.
