Shaw Air Force Base Conducts Late Flights
Pilots from Shaw Air Force Base in central South Carolina will conduct nighttime exercises this week and next. Air Force officials say F-16 jets will be taking off and landing as late as 10 p.m. through Thursday this week and from Monday through Thursday of next week.

NYC Terrorism Suspect Zazi Pleads Not Guilty
An Afghan immigrant has pleaded not guilty to plotting a terrorist attack on New York City using common chemicals. Najibullah Zazi’s lawyer entered the plea Tuesday in Brooklyn. Zazi was ordered held without bail during the brief hearing.

North Augustan Excels At Diving
Andrew Helmich doesn’t play football, but something tells me Coach Lou Holtz would be impressed by this young man’s dedication. When the North Augusta native isn’t attending classes at Augusta Prep, he’s spending just about every waking hour diving. Helmich has performed well in a number of top amateur diving competitions across the country. Andrew trains at the University of South Carolina…logging more than 600 miles each week. FAA To Inspect Pilot Training At Regional Airlines
Federal officials say they plan to beef up inspection of pilot training programs at regional airlines. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Federal Aviation Administrator Randy Babbitt said Tuesday in a statement they will also hold an a summit meeting with the airline industry next week to seek better pilot training and other safety improvements.

Coach Bob Bowman issued the statement Sunday after a British tabloid published a photograph showing the Olympic gold medalist inhaling from a marijuana pipe in November at the University of South Carolina, in Columbia. The coach did not respond to phone and e-mail messages and issued the short statement through Phelps’ agent.

Technology Agreements Bring Support To Warfighters At Fort Gordon
