Engineers say 80% of the Interstate 20 construction project is finished. A July 2010 completion date has been moved up because the work is slated to be completed a lot earlier. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford for the latest.

Steady rain has been creating a few traffic problems across the CSRA, Thursday. And with more, heavier, rain expected, it could be messy out there. Drivers still need to be on the lookoout for pools of water and other hazardous driving conditions. There’s just a light rain now, and in some parts, up to 2 inches of rain has fallen…but it’s not over yet. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford has more.

Motorists now have one resource when it comes to avoiding the ‘tangle’ of Augusta highways. As the scheduled construction on I-20 continues through 2010, motorists will benefit from I20Tangle.com, a blogsite devoted to notify the community and its drivers on the most current construction and traffic conditions. The site, updated weekly, aims to keep motorists informed of any upcoming lane, exit road closures or areas of heavy traffic due to the construction on I-20 and Bobby Jones Expressway.

According to Aiken Electric Cooperative, electric service to some Aiken Electric Cooperative members in the northeast Aiken area is currently out due to a vehicular accident that broke two cooperative service poles.

Virginia, four other states, including South Carolina, and the federal government have agreed to take a regional approach to improving and expanding a roughly 1,000-mile segment of Interstate 95.

Georgia State Patrol officials say wet roads were to blame for the 20 traffic deaths reported during the New Year’s holiday period.

The Georgia State Patrol is predicting 20 traffic deaths on Georgia roads during the 102-hour New Year’s Day holiday weekend that begins Wednesday at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight Sunday.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, traffic crashes across Georgia over the 102-hour Christmas holiday travel period claimed the lives of 24 people. The holiday period began Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight Sunday.

The Georgia State Patrol predicts 19 traffic deaths over the Christmas holiday weekend, a 102-hour period that begins Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. and will end at midnight Sunday, Dec. 28.

The AAA Auto Club South says the Southeast is expected to lead the country in motorists hitting the road for Christmas travel.

The Georgia State Patrol will participate with law enforcement officers across the country in Operation Zero Tolerance. The nation’s high-visibility enforcement program to catch impaired drivers begins Friday and runs through Jan. 4, 2009.

The Georgia State Patrol will kick off stepped up patrols for impaired drivers this weekend as National Lifesaver Weekend begins the Christmas and New Year’s holiday enforcement period. National Lifesaver Weekend is sponsored by Operation C.A.R.E., or Combined Accident Reduction Effort, a nationwide state law enforcement program to reduce the number of traffic deaths on our nation’s highways.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies are on the scene of a violent car accident. The accident happened around 11:00 a.m. on Fury’s Ferry Road at Hardy McManus Road.
