TEE Center Action Delayed By Augusta Commission

It will be another two weeks before Augusta Commissioners take on the Trade, Exhibit, and Events (TEE) Center. Commissioners were scheduled to take up the trade center at their meeting Tuesday afternoon but decided to delay any action until their next meeting.

TEE Center Fight Could Doom Downtown Hotel

A new hotel for downtown has been on the drawing board for months. Plans call for a 130-room Hyatt Place Hotel, and business center. But now, a player in the hotel deal says the Commission troubles with the TEE Center could have the hotel checking out before ever breaking ground. Historic Augusta Neighborhood: Will They Come if They Rebuild It?

Augusta is planning a major redevelopment of the city’s historic inner city neighborhoods. Along with the new trade center, the revitalization project will use money from a dollar a night hotel room fee as a source of funding. Commissioners No Show On TEE Center Meeting

TEE Center Meeting Cancelled

It was supposed to be a chance to re-energize discussion about the proposed Trade, Exhibit and Events (or TEE) Center. The multi-million dollar venture has been taking hits from some Augusta, Georgia Commissioners, as of late. A special called meeting was planned for Thursday, but some Commissioners argued they couldn’t be there because of previous engagements or appointments.

Not suited for the TEE

It’s a big box to provide space for conventions and trade shows, The ‘TEE’ Center, short for Trade Exhibit and Events Center.  It was a big priority when Augusta officials put in on the sales tax list in 2005 and voters approved $20 million for it. Now, Commissioners are looking at another sales tax and the ‘TEE’ Center is back in line, looking for $20 million more. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has more.
