The government is now trying to get the word out that any cell phone use while behind the wheel can be extremly dangerous. In Washington, the Transportation Department is so worried about drivers who don’t keep their minds on driving, that they’re holding a summit meeting about it. Distracted Drivers reportedly cause thousands of traffic deaths a year. ABC News’ T.J. Winick has more.

Members of the Senate grilled executives from the wireless phone companies…about their massive profits…from text messaging. This is big business: more than 3,000,000,000,000 (3 trillion) text messages will be sent this year…but with success comes scrutiny, and members of Congress want to know how the companies can charge so much for a simple text message. Most parents are in the dark when it comes to what different “codes” mean in their kids’ text messages. Sometimes these codes are meant to keep parents from actually knowing what they are talking about.

South Carolina’s state lawmakers don’t go back into session until next month, but they’re already filing bills that could have a big impact on you if they become law.
