POLL: Should Augusta Have A Full-Time EMA Director?

Is the job of Richmond County EMA Director too important to be part-time? As we exclusively reported, Monday, Augusta Mayor Pro-Tem Alvin Mason says…it is time the city had a full-time Emergency Management Director. Fire Chief Howard Willis has been serving in the role, while also running the Fire Department. In light of the tornados, earlier this month, other city leaders are now making the call to change things in the EMA office.

Red Cross Volunteers Help With Storm Cleanup In South Augusta

Storm clean-up continued in Augusta, on Saturday. Over on Bungalow Road, neighbors spent time helping out in yards. There are still trees that need to be removed, and houses that need to be repaired…but residents here tell us things are going smoothly because of everybody lending a hand.

7 Days Later : What A Difference A Week Makes

We take a look at the storm-ravaged communities…one week later. Last Saturday, many local residents woke up to mangled trees, ruined houses, and downed power lines. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe shows how much things have changed, in seven days.

Georgia Insurance Commissioner Tours Storm Ravaged Areas

State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine estimates $60 million in damage, statewide, from this past weekend’s storms. He says a large portion of that is from Augusta. He says the damage here is equal to or worse than anywhere in the state. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford for the story.

Richmond County Storm Victims Clean Up

Governor Sanford: Federal Aid Unlikely for Aiken Tornado Victims

Tornado victims in Aiken County took a break from sorting through the rubble, Monday, as the rain fell. But Tuesday morning, they were back out, digging through their belongings, and they were joined by South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.

Nearly 30,000 Customers Still Without Power In Georgia

Georgia Power Company and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation say less than 30,000 Georgians remain without power after severe thunderstorms and high winds moved through the state.

Tuesday, Governor Mark Sanford is seeing for himself the damage from some wicked weather…Governor Sanford is touring several counties in the Palmetto State, including Aiken. He arrived at the Silver Bluff Fire Station about 9:30 a.m., Tuesday morning.

Evacuated Nursing Home Still Without Residents

A nursing home evacuated during Friday night’s storms is damaged and still empty. The staff is beginning the clean-up process to get it ready for residents to be moved back in. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker reports.

Racing For Cover: Tornado Victims Scramble To Beat Rain

Monday became a race against the weather for people still trying to pick through the rubble to find belongings, in Aiken County. Hundreds woke up to a disaster, early Saturday morning. Beech Island, and the surrounding areas were the hardest hit. Emergency crews say half a dozen homes are destroyed. The clean-up is still in the early stages, and now comes the news that another storm is rolling in. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.
